Iain Anderson is known as the Flying Professor. This New Zealander has a love of exploring in his light sport aircraft, a Tecnam Sierra MKII.

Iain recently completed his self described "year of living dangerously" in a year long Australian flying odyssey adventure.

Flying from his base in Auckland, New Zealand, Iain flew across the Tasman Sea, island-hopping via Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island to the Gold Coast on the Australian mainland. He then flew to Boonah to base his aircraft with Ultimate Aero for a year.

What followed was a year of exploring, including flights to the top end, Cape York and Thursday Island, the Barrier Reef, flying over the Flinders Ranges and

Lake Eyre, flying to the south coast of NSW, seeing humpback whales from the air, the Seven Apostles, Broken Hill and so much more!

Experiencing kangaroos on country airfields, bush camping and making new friends it was great Australian experience. Iain says "I can't tell you how much fun I have had, I've made a lot of Australian friends, one of them gave me an official Australian nickname - Ando, I'm very proud of that!"

The Tecnam Sierra MKII features a rotax engine, wide fuselage, glass cockpit and a parachute. It has been fitted out for flying over water, with a sat phone, a ferry tank, a life raft and Iain wears an orange survival suit.
